Russel E. Kaufman, MD

Russel is President and CEO of The Wistar Institute and Director of The Wistar Cancer Center. Previously he was Vice Dean and Associate Vice Chancellor at the Duke University School of Medicine. He has held leadership positions in national academic organizations in Internal Medicine and on committees within the NIH, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Cancer Society, and the American Association of Medical Colleges. His research focuses on genetics, cancer, and blood diseases. He serves on the boards of the University City Science Center, BioAdvance, The University of the Arts, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Neuland Laboratories. He serves on the Advisory Board for Osage Venture Partners and is a founding member of the Pharmaceutical Safety Institute. Dr. Kaufman also serves as a Wistar Professor in the Adjunct Faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.
