Geoff is the founding Director of the Center for Genomic Medicine in the Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy (IGSP), where he has pioneered the integration of genomics into the practice of clinical medicine through conception, development and validation of novel translational pathways. He is also Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. Prior to these roles, he held a number of positions at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, beginning in 1997 as Senior Program Director for Cardiovascular Disease, and then in 2000 as Vice President of Molecular and Personalized Medicine, where he was responsible for Millennium's initiatives to develop biomarkers for disease and pharmacogenomic strategies for therapeutics and their implementation in the drug development process. Before joining Millennium, Geoff was Director of Preventive Cardiology at the Beth Israel Hospital and a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, where he led the Laboratory of Applied Genetics in Cardiovascular Disease at Boston Children's Hospital. Geoff's unique vision and expertise is highly sought after in both the scientific and policy arenas in the U.S. and abroad. Since 2004 he has served as a consultant or special advisor to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (Board of External Experts), the Governor of Utah, Genome Canada, Secretary of Veterans Affairs (Advisory Council on Genomic Medicine), and he is a founder of the Personalized Medicine Coalition. Geoff is currently working with the FDA and HHS to include personalized medicine as an integral component of national health care strategies.
